The Scindia School, situated on the hill fortress of Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh, is a residential school for boys. It was founded by the late Maharaja Madhavrao Jayaji Rao Scindia of Gwalior in 1897. Since then the school has grown in scale and scope of work and in reputation. Enjoying an all India status it draws boys from various parts of the country. The school offers a rich variety of activities and opportunities for a multi-dimensional growth.
There are 13 houses, of which four are for juniors and eight for seniors. The total strength is approximately 630. The dormitories are housed in double-storey, high roffed imposing buildings, very airy, commodious and comfortable and equipped with all necessary items of indoor games and gadgets of entertainment. The four houses for the junior boys are looked after by housemasters/housemistress, matrons and other domestic staff. The senior houses have a housemaster and a resident tutor along with the necessary domestic staff.
Says Principal N K Tewari: “A Scindian is no different from any other young aspirant when he makes his way up the fort for the first time. When he leaves, he will have absorbed the ethos of the institution where he will have spent the greater part of every year he stays with us. He returns home, term after term, subtly enriched, spiritually enhanced, emotionally evolved and mentally balanced, and it often happens that parents do not notice the change until they suddenly realise that their son is a Man! One fine day he becomes confident but not arrogant; gentle, not subservient; humble, not brash; self-reliant, not selfish; knowledgeable, not cunning; firm, but fair; independent, but not obstinate.
