The Doon School – Dehradun

Sylvan surroundings and a salubrious climate are coveted trappings for any residence. The Chandbagh Estate, Spread over 69 acres in Dehradun, was the ideal location for the school. It had been the campus for the illustrious Indian forest College (which has since been relocated as the world-renowned forest Research Institute). The acquisition of skinners Estate, from the family of the well-known Colonel Skinners Estate, from the family of the well-known Colonel Skinner of Skinner’s Horse, expanded the woody and lush surroundings to an impressive self-contained 28 hectares.

Most recently, the school’s core academic and administrative areas have been wired by a fibre optic network. This is powered by state of the art servers and broadband connectivity. Computers are used to teach computer science courses and as a resource for educational and administrative purposes.

Every building on campus has been wired and smart classrooms are in place to facilitate modern teaching methodologies, the school has thus embraced the advantages that higher technology has to offer. A state of the art computer department and the IT centre and the IT centre are constantly buzzing with activity.

Boys pursue these hobbies with passion and spend much of their free time in the art and music schools that are housed separately.

Multi-tasking is rapidly being acknowledged as a necessary skill. At The Dooon School, students learn very early to focus, prioritize and effectively juggle preparations for their upcoming calss tests, train for soccer matches, and allocate time for the multimedia contest.

The term has a five-day break structured into the calendar. The entire school, including mined routes chalked out in the Garhwal Himalayas. A love for nature, a deep seated concern for the environment and a yearning for adventure are often the rewards harvested during these bi-annual midterms.

The Doon School is largely responsible for pioneering the midterm concept, which is today avidly followed by quality boarding schools in India.
