Report by IED bureau, Mumbai: Maha Vishuba Sankranti is widely celebrated in Odisha. It is not only known as a New Year for Odia community but also a Pana Sankranti. A sweet concoction known as pana is prepared and distributed among one and all. (Pana is prepared by mixing different types of fruits, water, milk, pulp of bela, curd and sugar). Poetry reading sesions and literary functions are also organised this day. For the coming Maha Vishuba Sankranti, let’s go to Mumbai and enjoy the pure Odia spirit shown by Odias living in Mumbai. There are many programs lined up on this auspicious occasion.
Bombay Odia Women Association (BOWA) and Mumbai Odia Mahasangha are organizing Odia Kabi Sammilan at Odisha Bhawan, Vashi, Mumbai on April 14th. Odia poets and poets from other states have been invited for this event on Panasankranti. All members of BOWA and Mumbai Odia Mahasngha will actively participate on this occasion. Many Odias staying in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and sub-urbans are expected to attend the function.
Biswa Odia Mahasanga is also organizing a gathering in Antop Hill, Mumbai. On this occasion, Pana and Prasad Sevan are arranged. Surendra Nath Mohapatra, President of Biswa Odia Mahasangha, said Panasankranti in Antop has been organized for the last 10 years and Biswa Odia Mahasanga is organizing this event since 2012.
