Report by Santanu Ganguly, New Delhi: Freedom Caravan is an internationally recognised program that brings young people together  to explore ideas about individual liberty and economic prosperity.The program consists of engaging talks, working groups and discussion on a chosen theme in campuses across the country.Similar programs have been organized by sister-organizations across the globe in countries such as Brazil, Turkey, Germany, and Kyrgyzstan.

Why Freedom Caravan?

To expose young people to the moral and intellectual foundations of a free society;
To help create a positive perception of liberal ideas among young people in India, especially regarding ways in which liberal policies can advance the dignity and prosperity of the poor;
To identify students and local leaders interested in liberal ideas in order to develop a support network of likemindedindividuals  committed to advance liberal ideas in India.
To raise awareness about CCS programs, courses, and campaigns.
FREEDOM CARAVAN 2013:

The main event will consist of a central, interactive talk, which runs for 1 hr 30 min, after which students will be able to choose among three concurrent breakout sessions each of which will run for 1 hr 15 min.

Central Talk:

Why is India Poor?: Asks participants why they think India is poor, debunks perennial myths about the causes of poverty and prosperity, and develops their ability to use reasons, data, and evidence when thinking about public policy.

Concurrent Breakout Sessions:

Defending the Undefendable: Introduces participants to the "invisible hand" of the market and leads them to the shocking conclusions that price gougers, speculators, and middlemen promote consumer welfare.

Would You Give Up the Internet for a Million Dollars?: Asks participants to struggle with the question "Would You Give Up the Internet for a Million Dollars?" and explores how and why capitalism has created unfathomable wealth and prosperity of ordinary people.

A World Beyond Borders: Gets participants to imagine and think about a world of open borders, in which people, ideas, goods, and capital are free to move without visas, quotas, tariffs, and other restrictions that limit the movement and interaction among peaceful people.
