New Delhi: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) announces admissions to the modular programmes in Gandhi and Peace Studies for the session commencing July 2012. The University invites applications for Master of Arts in Gandhi and Peace Studies (MAGPS), Post Graduate Diploma in Gandhi and Peace Studies (PGDGPS) and Post Graduate Certificate in Gandhi and Peace Studies (PGCGPS). The MAGPS programme provides quality education at post graduate level in theoretical and applied Gandhian studies, peace, conflict management and social regeneration. It provides an in-depth knowledge in the area of peace studies and conflict resolution and enables the learners to specialize in one of the Gandhian models of development. The master’s programme can be completed in minimum two years and maximum five years duration which shall widen the scope of learners for further research, training and career opportunities in economic, social, gender, political, environmental and sustainable development issues. It enables the learners to join careers in teaching, research, NGO’s in peacemaking and peace building. A graduate in any discipline is eligible to join the programme for July 2012 session. The block details of the programme is: Gandhi- the man and his times, philosophy of Gandhi, Gandhi’s social and political thought and introduction to peace and conflict resolution along with some optional courses to choose from an array of socially relevant ones. The PGDGPS programme imparts knowledge particularly to the young people on the thoughts and ideas of Gandhi on social, economic, political, sustainable and environmental issues. It develops peace methods from the interdisciplinary perspectives to train the participants in peace making and conflict resolution in real life situations. The diploma holders can then join media, NGOs or opt for teaching and research. This diploma programme is of minimum one year and maximum three years duration. A graduate in any discipline is eligible to join the programme for July 2012 session. The PGCGPS programme is of minimum six months and maximum two years duration which shall comprehend Gandhi’s vision of peace and non-violent activism. It shall widen the horizon of student to understand the Gandhi’s concept of world order for global peace and security. The last date to apply for all these programmes is 30th July 2012 without late fee, while it’s 14th August 2012 with late fee of Rs.200. Student handbook and prospectus is available in all the Regional Centers of the university as well as in the university’s headquarters which can be purchased for Rs.100 and submitted along with the requisite fee in the form of a demand draft to the concerned Regional Center. Students can also apply to these programmes through online mode.
