Aligarh : "Sir Syed was aware of the potent power of mass media and effectively used all the then existing communication mode for promoting his vision and mission", said Prof. N.A.K. Durrani, Chairman, Department of Mass Communication here today. Speaking at the "Peace meeting" organized by the students of Journalism and Mass Communication to mark the 113th Death Anniversary of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, Prof. Durrani said that establishment of AMU Centres at Murshidabad and Malappuram is the biggest step in the right direction and in line with Sir Syed's vision. The key to development is education and Sir Syed has shown us the way by bringing the deprived minority community into the process of development through education. He urged the students to participate in this golden opportunity and become an active partner in extricating the community mired in misery. The enlightened initiative of AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis is carrying forward the legacy of Sir Syed and spreading education across the nation. His efforts in setting up AMU centres at Murshidabad, Malappuram, Kishanganj, Bhopal and Maharashtra need to be appreciated and further strengthened. The students should come forward and extend full support so that the vision and dream of Sir Syed is translated into reality, he added. Dr. Mufti Zahid A. Khan, Nazim-e-Deeniyat and senior faculty member of Department of Theology said that Sir Syed's efforts have contributed to nation building. His mission has benefitted the community and the people of the country at large. He concluded the programme with Dua for global peace and amity and happiness and development of the country. The programme began with the Qirat by Maulana Abdul Hamid followed by a brief introduction of the services rendered by the great reformer, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan by the convener of the programme, Mariyam Mateen, a student of journalism. Hassan Khalid, student of Mass Communication made a passionate plea for world peace. Pointing out the flaws he urged the United Nations to be impartial in its dealings with all the countries of the world and not to be swayed by the dictates of the superpowers only. Mr. Saifu Hadi gave an insight to the message of peace that the religion Islam is based on. He highlighted the significance of gratitude and thankfulness to those who do us good in our lives. A two-minute silence was observed by the gathering to pay homage to the soul of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, the man who changed a million lives. The programme was attended by a large number of students. Ms. Shikha Singh, a student of Journalism conducted the programme.
