Bhubaneswar, May 26 -- The construction work for a 100-bed, state-of-the-art trauma centre, to be set up by Vedanta Aluminium Ltd (VAL) in Bhubaneswar, is likely to begin soon. The State Government has handed over the required 10 acres for the centre, which would come up near Gangapada on the National Highway-5 in its Bhubaneswar-Khurda patch. It will handle the ever-increasing trauma cases and an estimated Rs 75 crore is proposed to be spent on the project. HOSMAC consultant, an internationally reputed hospital maker, has been roped in by the company to render its professional expertise for this project, company sources said. The idea to set up a trauma care centre in Bhubanheswar was discussed between Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and chairman of the Vedanta group Anil Agarwal during his visit to the State last year. The setting up of the centre assumes importance as the death rate in accidents per hundred people in Odisha at 35 compares unfavourably with the national average. Moreover, there is no specialised trauma centre in the State with latest facilities. "The proposed centre will have facilities that will cater to patients of all income groups at any point of time," Vice-President of the Vedanta group Ajit Kumar Samal said. Source: The Pioneer
