Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Anusandhan Bhavan, 2 Rafi Marg, New Delhi-110001, has invited applications for admission to the Ph.D. programmes of the AcSIR in Science and Engineering, for the August, 2012 session.
AcSIR offers exciting opportunities to motivated and talented students to work in the frontier and trans-disciplinary areas of Science and Engineering. For admission to the Ph.D Programme in Sciences, applicants should hold a Bachelorís Degree in Engineering/Technology/Medicine or B.S (of 4 year duration) or Masterís Degree, with a keen sense of scientific enquiry for pursuing advanced research in frontier areas of Biological, Chemical, Physical and Mathematical Sciences, leading to a Ph.D Degree. Applicant should also have a valid National level fellowship (JRF/SRF of various funding agencies like CSIR, UGC, DBT, DST etc.), INSPIRE or other equivalent fellowships.
For admission to the Ph.D Programme in Engineering, applicant should have a Masterís Degree in Engineering/Technology/ Pharmacy with a good academic record and should have secured admission to the Masterís Degree Programme based on GATE score or should hold a Masterís Degree in Sciences with a good academic record and with a valid GATE score or UGC/CSIR NET/NBHM or valid CSIR-SRF or equivalent fellowship or should have a Bachelorís Degree in Engineering/Technology with exceptionally good academic record and a valid GATE score with keen interest in research in various disciplines in Engineering.
The areas of research include but are not limited to Mechatronics, Engineering of Structures, Composites, Fabrionics, Sensors and Micro-systems, Bio-inspired Devices and Systems, Plasmonics, Applied Mathematical/Computational Modeling, Aerospace,Disaster Mitigation against Hazards, Environmental Risk Assessment, Leather Technology, Footwear Science and Engineering, Marine Science and Technology, Glass and Ceramic Engineering, Smart Embedded Systems, etc. The number of seats available depends upon the requirement of the participating CSIR Laboratories.

Eligible candidates possessing the minimum educational qualifications as prescribed above will be called for test and / or interview by the Selection Committees of the respective laboratories of CSIR. Based on the academic record and the performance of the candidates in the test and/or interview, the Selection Committee of the concerned CSIR Laboratory will recommend the names of the selected candidates to the respective Deans. The criteria and procedure of admission in different laboratories will be announced well in advance for every semester. The number of candidates called for test/interview will be commensurate with the number of seats/requirements in each Laboratory. Only online applications will be accepted through http://acsir.res.in till midnight of May 18, 2012.
Applicant should first create an Account at the link http://acsir-phd.csio.res.in/acsirphdregisterloginaction.action by entering the valid email id of the applicant at the ĎNew Userí link. After verification of the email id, user name and password will be mailed to the email id of the applicant. Applicant will have to login with the username and password received in the email ID and fill up the Online Application form.
After the form is filled-up, a preview page is generated. This preview page is for the record of the applicant. An authentic application form also becomes ready for download which the applicant may save. It may be printed but should not be sent to the Institute. A pdf version of the form can be downloaded any time from this account. The same form shall be available for signature if the applicant is short-listed for interview. Other instructions will be provided to the applicant through the account and/or email in the event of the candidate being short-listed for the PhD programme. Applicant will have to bring original certificates and a full set of self-attested certificates during the final admission process at the lab.
Screening of Applications will be done by 23rd May 2012. Those short listed will be intimated electronically by 1st June, 2012. Aptitude Test/Interview for those short listed will be held in respective Institutes between 13th June and 13th July, 2012. Results will be declared at the website by 18th July, 2012. Enrolment will be done between 13th and 14th August, 2012. Enrolment Fee is Rs.12,000/- per year, which is deducted as Rs.1000/- per month from the regular fellowship of the students. Session begins on 17th August, 2012.
