Report by Vijyender Sharma; Shimla: Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, former President of India said that every one whatever profession he opt should always strive for excellence in the larger interest of development of nation and it is also duty of all of us. He was delivering valedictory address on the conclusion of public colloquium on fundamental duties organized by H.P. State Legal Service Authority in association with SEWA, PRSI and Department of Language, Art and Culture here today. It was 11th in the series of public colloquiums organized. Dr. Abdul Kalam said that to achieve the excellence was not accidental but continued process and our country had always strived for excellence. Emphasising the importance of good habits, Dr. Abdul Kalam said that what child learn at home and in the school in primary stage also play an important role in achieving excellence in their lives. He said that father, mother and primary teachers can give one righteous path. He said that tolerance was a hallmark of civilization, one must have tolerance for other culture, opinion, belief, style and ideas. It was also duty of a good citizens, he remarked. He said that right implies duty, one must perform his duty for environment and sustainable development in the larger interest of the country. He said that one should have righteous heart which was a beauty of the character and always strive for what he could contribute for the nation. Dr. Abdul Kalam said that for achieving heights in life one must have great aim, lust for acquiring knowledge continuously, hard work and also aim for acquiring excellence. He said that to bring prosperity in the country there was a need of second green revolution and added that political freedom had no meaning without economic freedom. Mr. Justice Kurian Joseph, Chief Justice of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh stressed for aptitude change to strive for excellence in life. He said that information leads to formation, then transformation, which leads to progress, progress to change and change leads to development. Where there was a right there was a remedy, he remarked. Mr. Justice Kurian Joseph said that every one has equal rights and we must have regard for others rights which was true duty. He said that if one performs his duty in right perspective it was automatically going to bring sea change in others attitude in the society. Mr. Justice R. B. Misra, Executive Chairman, H.P. State Legal Services Authority and Judge of H.P. High Court in his welcome address delved upon various facilities being provided by the State Legal Services Authority especially for poor so as to get justice. He also said that endeavour of the Authority and its associates during colloquiums organized had been to create awareness amongst the masses especially younger ones about fundamental duties enshrined in the Constitution. Mr. Justice D.D. Sood, Mr. Justice Deepak Gupta, Judges of H.P. High Court, Prof. Vepa Rao, Patron of SEWA, B.D. Sharma, Chairman, Shimla Chapter Public Relations Society of India, Rakesh Kanwar, Director, Language, Art and Culture also spoke on the occasion. Mr Justice Lokeshwar Panta, Lokayukta, H.P., Judges of H.P. High Court, former Judges, Shri Sanjay Chauhan, Mayor, Shimla Municipal Corporation, senior military and civil officers of Central and State Governments also participated during the public colloquium. The students of colleges and schools had interactive session with Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, former President of India and Mr. Justice Kurian Joseph, Chief Justice of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh on various aspects of fundamental duties.
