New Delhi: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) offers three Certificate programmes in Visual Arts- Painting (CVAP), Visual Arts- Applied Art (CVAA)and Visual Arts- Sculpture (CVAS). Those who have passed their 10thstandard board exam are eligible to apply.

The CVAP programme in painting aims at imparting basic knowledge and skill of drawing, medium and composition with the development of creative and aesthetics sensibilities. The course tends to inculcate creativity, precision and use of tool and materials.

The programme also helps to develop the self observation, visualization and self motivation to create an art work. It introduces them to the concept of Indian Art practices and Aesthetics and helps them to understand the use of material and technique.

The CVAA programme aims to develop basic applied and design skills with creative and aesthetic understanding. To create an art work, the programme helps to develop the visualization and designing sensibility in a learner.

It helps them to understand the use of material and technique for graphicdesigning and advertising.

Sculpture is one of the most popular three dimensional forms of fine arts.

It allows the artist to have an intimate relationship with the work. The certificate programme in Sculpture aims to impart understanding and use of material and technique to create expressive sculptures with understanding of using principles of art.

The main objective of the CVAS programme is to know the artist’s tools and materials and find its possibilities and limitations through series of free and elaborate exercise.

All the three certificate programmes have same three theory papers viz, Indian Culture Heritage, understanding Indian art forms and introduction to Indian arts and differ in the practical components. The practical component of CVAP programme consists of direct study from simple objects, study from still life and composition in painting; CVAA consists of geometrical designs and graphic designs while CVAS consists of clay modeling and composition in different medium.

The last date to submit the application form for all these programmes is 30 th July 2012 (with late fee of Rs.200 up to 14th August 2012). Student handbook and prospectus is available in all the regional centers of the university as well as in the university’s headquarters which can be purchased for Rs.100 and submitted along with the requisite fee in the form of a demand draft to the concerned regional centre.
