Report by Santanu Ganguly, New Delhi: Eminent journalists, columnists and former and current bureaucrats joined a party hosted by Professor Mushirul Hasan to commemorate his new book, ‘Proceedings of the Indian National Congress: Vol. I’ at Hotel Oberai in New Delhi on 8th August.
Published by Niyogi Books, the Volume traces the history of Indian National Congress from 1885 to 1889. It contains a record of Congress speeches and resolutions and captures the mental, emotional, and political life of late nineteenth century India.
Speaking on the occasion Prof. Hasan said, “though scores of books exist on the Indian National Congress, he has taken a different route to illuminate the birth of an idea that has captured the imagination of millions”. The unique feature of the volume is that it is the first authentic version of the Congress proceedings.
Among those attended the party were: Mr. Kuldeep Nayar, Senior Journalist and former MP; Mr. Vinod Mehta, Editor-in-Chief, Outlook; Mr. Vinod Sharma, Political Editor, Hindustan Times & Member Minority Commission; Mr. Sayed Naqvi, Journalist; Mrs. Mrinal Pande, Chairperson, Prasar Bharati Secretariat; Mr. Neeraj Bajpai, Joint Editor, UNI; Ms Saba Naqvi, & Mr. Sunil Menon, Outlook; and Shri Muchkund Dubey, President, Council for Social Development. Former Minister, Mr. Natwar Singh too graced the occasion.
Professor Mushirul Hasan’s other books published by Niyogi Books- Wit and Wisdom, Avadh Punch, Mutiny Memoirs, Partners in Freedom: Jamia Milia Islamia, were also displayed at the party.
