Hyderabad: The Global Social Venture Competition (GSVC) Asia Regional Finals, which will be hosted by the Indian School of Business (ISB) in March 2010, will once again bring together the academic and financial worlds to recognise, measure and support sustainable social ventures. GSVC is a premier global competition with a mission to catalyse the creation of social ventures, educate future leaders and build awareness of social enterprises. It began in 1999 as a student led initiative at the Haas School of Business, California, USA.
This year the ISB received over 80 registrations with executive summaries and after extensive mentoring, 57 full business plans from India, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Kenya were short listed. These plans were then reviewed in the Preliminary Evaluation Round. This process involved a two stage evaluation wherein 28 ISB Alumni and 28 people from the social sector, reviewed and rated the plans, which were then presented to a main judging committee comprising social sector experts. Atreya Rayaprolu, Vice President, Intellecap; Molly McMahon, Programme Officer, Gray Ghost Ventures; Professor Pratap Reddy, Dean, Food and Agri Business School, R S Sharat, Executive Director, Lanco Foundation, Somesh Kumar, IAS, National Institute of Rural Development, were part of the main judging committee.
The GSVC is also supported by several Outreach Partners, who host a local or regional business plan judging round and send their finalists directly to the final round. A total of 24 teams, 17 from the final selection round, along with the 4 selected from the national competition in South Korea and 3 from the national competition in China have been invited to the Asia Regional Finals.
