Report by India Education bureau, New Delhi: Over 7000 youths from all across UP showed keen interest in Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Government of Uttar Pradesh's 'Rozgar Mela' for ITIs held in Lucknow today. While career fairs often keep happening for engineering and B-School students, such an organised activity for ITIs was organised at this level for the first time in UP. Chief Minister, Mr Akhilesh Yadav in his message to CII said that such Rozgar Melas would go a long way in his Government's resolve to bring large number of employment opportunities to its unemployed youth.
Dr Waqar Ahmad Shah, Cabinet Minister – Labour & Employment, Government of UP and Mr Shahid Manzoor, Minister of State – Labour & Employment, GoUP were the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour, respectively. They spoke highly of CIIs ability to bring in industry leaders for recruitment and apprenticeship opportunities for the state's ITI pass-outs.
Mr Jayant Krishna, Co Chairman, CII Northern Region's Special Task Force on Skill & Education and Regional Head - Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) said that CII would do everything possible to facilitate in the process of UP reaping the rich demographic dividend through skill development and meaningful employment opportunities. He also added that this Rozgar Mela was organised in order to establish an effective link between industry and skilled talent pool.
Mr Rajeev Kapoor, Principal Secretary - Vocational Education, GoUP said that such Rozgar Melas should be a regular activity of CII and GoUP's calendar every year. Mr Anil Kumar, Director - Training & Employment, GoUP expressed the need of introducing new ITI trades in line with the industrial demand. He said that this Rozgar Mela would undoubtedly go a long way in bridging the manpower demand-supply gap in the manufacturing and other sectors.
Mr Jayant Krishna added that the objective of this initiative was to bring in employers from different regions and provide employment avenues for the youths in UP who are passing out from ITIs, including recent pass-outs. The Rozgar Mela also factored in requirements and expectations of the industries, potential of ITI students, and challenges faced by them. This innovative initiative also targeted to ensure inclusiveness and provide youth an opportunity to be a part of the mainstream economy.
The key industries at the mela included Hero Moto Corp Ltd, Tata Motors Ltd, Shubham Goldie Masale, Eldeco Housing and Industries Ltd., Mahakaleshwar Smile Parks Enterprises Ltd, Yash Papers Ltd, PTC Industries. These industries together had vacancy for 1200 people.
