Report by India Education bureau, Jamshedpur: The word ‘homecoming’ world-over signifies a tradition of welcoming back the alumni to their Alma Mater to celebrate the spirit of conviviality and to connect with batch-mates, juniors, seniors as well as current students. In XLRI it is a two day event organized by the Alumni Committee of XLRI in association with the Jamshedpur chapter of the Alumni Association.
XLRI homecoming holds special significance owing to overwhelming response the institute gets year after year with over 150 alumni participating in the event last year. Scheduled this year during 24-25 November, 2012, the registration for the event is expected to go beyond 200. A large number of alumni are coming along with their spouses and family to participate in this year’s event.

The two day program aims at helping the students, staff and faculty to interact and network with the alumni. Various events organized to achieve the same include: Formal welcoming ceremony, presentations by the students to the Alumni, Panel discussion led by the Alumni, the vision sharing by the Director, band performances both by the Alumni and students, Community lunches and games. In addition to these the play and live music etc. performed by the students reflect the XLRI value systems. The evening rock and country folk music by the students and alumni in the JLT will also make the evening informal and highly interactive.
A prestigious event on the evening of November 24 will be the annual JRD Tata Oration to be held at the Tata Auditorium. Dr. Chris Lowney, Chair-Elect, Board of Catholic Health Initiatives, USA will deliver the annual JRD Tata Oration on “Heroic Leaders: Who They Are and How They Live”.
This will be followed by the Alumni Awards Ceremony. Mr. B. Muthuraman (Chairman, Tata International Ltd) and Vice Chairman (Tata Steel) will be conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Avijit Ghosh, Vice President, Technology & Economic Development and Professor of Business Administration, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA will receive the Distinguished Alumnus Award. Mr. Rakesh Kapoor, CEO, Reckitt Benckiser will be the recipient of the Disitinguished Alumnus Award (Practising Manager).
