Mumbai: Diabetes is today recognized as a major lifestyle disease in the India, upto 11% of India’s urban population and 3% of the rural population above the age of 15 have diabetes making India the world's diabetic capital. The Indian diabetic Day on June27, 2013 brings together all doctors, nutritionists, dieticians, diabetic patients, NGOs, Healthcare associations etc to create awareness on the causes and prevention of diabetics in India.

One such association is Solvent Extractors Association who through their constant endeavor is creating awareness about RICE BRAN OIL -known as one of the worlds healthiest oil in preventing diabetics , blood pressure, Cholesterol and other lifestyle diseases.

Known research institutes in India and abroad have found Rice Bran Oil ‘Heart Friendly- Healthy Oil’ with unique properties beneficial for maintaining good health. It has a higher cholesterol reducing power than other PUFA rich oils due to presence of oryzanol. Apart from health benefits to the heart, high antioxidant value, a balanced fatty acid profile, presence of omega 3 etc makes Rice Bran Oil the most heart friendly oil today.

Speaking on the occasion Dr Shashank Joshi said sedentary lifestyles, high stress levels; improper sleep and deteriorating eating habits all contribute to rise in diabetes amongst the younger population today. About 80% of type-II diabetes cases can be prevented by lifestyle changes like adopting a healthy diet and increasing physical activity. We strongly recommend the use of RICE BRAN Oil to our patients, as many research reports on RBO has proven its health benefits.

Adding further Dr. Meena Mehta, Associate Professor in the subject of Food Science & Nutrition at Dr. B.M. Nanavati College of Home Science affiliated to S.N.D.T. University, Mumbai, commented that, “As per the International Diabetes Federation, India has 61 million diabetics between 20-79 years. By 2030, according to the estimates, 8.4 per cent of India's adult population will have diabetes and this figure is estimated to increase up to 101.1 million.  To further prevent the growth of diabetes in younger generation we must focus on creating awareness and proper consumption of food along with adequate exercise. One such easy remedy could be consumption of Rice Bran Oil in daily cooking. Rice Bran Oil contains Lipoic Acid that stabilizes blood sugar levels and reduces the damage in body by excess sugar helps in diabetic complications. Rice Bran Oil also contains unique Nutracenticals known to maintain the right balance of cholesterol besides promoting overall good health."

Further commenting Dr Mehta also said replacing other edible oil with Rice Bran Oil in the daily cooking can help control lifestyle generated diseases. Compared to the goodness and health benefits of Olive Oil, Rice Bran oil is economically more affordable and ensures the same health benefits. RBO is also conducive to Indian cooking as it doesn't loose it nutrition and antioxidant value event at high cooking temperatures. Small changes like these would ensure India fights back and prevents the younger generation being targeted to such diseases.
