Mumbai: Duquesne University, one of United States' top tier universities, is offering two scholarships to Indian Students worth $200,000 towards four years of undergraduate studies for fall 2011.

Announcing the scholarships in Mumbai, Helen Auckland, Assistant Director of International Admissions at Duquesne University said, "We are happy to strengthen our commitment to Indian students through these new scholarships". Helen will be traveling across India in October visiting high schools and speaking with prospective students about study abroad opportunities available at Duquesne.

Duquesne University is a medium-sized, private university that enrolls over 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students across programs in natural and environmental sciences, leadership, business, nursing, health sciences, pharmacy, law, education, music, and the liberal arts. The University, located in Pittsburgh, is home to students from over 80 countries, including over 60 students from India on campus. The University is ranked amongst the top 12 catholic universities in the nation, and the Princeton Review recommends Duquesne as one of the country's best institutions for undergraduate education.

"In 2010, Duquesne was proud to attract over 500 international students, one of the largest class of international students in its history. International students offer new and diverse perspectives about the world around us, and we hope to provide a place for Indian students to learn and share their culture with our campus community," said Joe Decrosta, Director of International Programs.

Duquesne alumni were also present at the announcing of the scholarships. Joy Ganguly, co-founder of Moxie Entertainment, who graduated from the University in 2003 said, "America is the melting pot of the world, for me it was Duquesne. From the time I entered DU's orientation to the time I graduated – these were possibly the most enjoyable years of my life. DU gave me the tools to face an ever changing, fast paced world and to enhance my own skill sets to the best of my ability. Duquesne has the right mix that gives you a feeling of a bigger university with a small close knit family making it a good choice for prospective Indian students".

Pradeep Modi, a budding entrepreneur, who received a MBA from the university in 2008, said, "The smaller classrooms resulting in personalized attention from the professors,  the high bar level raised by the working professional classmates, and the equal focus on academics and case studies has been pivotal in my being transformed into an A grade business professional".
Pittsburgh, a medium sized educational hub and traditional American city, is the ideal place for international students with over 20 universities/colleges within the area. The coeducational Duquesne University campus offers dramatic views of Pittsburgh's skyline and rivers while offering a quiet and safe academic environment.

The University continues to attract students from India interested in pursuing degrees in Business, Sciences (Chemistry, Biology and Environment Science) and Pharmacy. The MBA program offered by the Donahue School of Business is also quite popular among Indian students.

"A global business education goes beyond internationalizing the curriculum; it requires internationalizing the student body and the faculty.  Recruiting high potential international students is a priority for both undergraduate and graduate programs," says Dean Alan Miciak from the A.J. Palumbo and Donahue Schools of Business.

In addition to the scholarships announced, all international students are reviewed for the Libermann Scholarship that offers financial support ranging from $4,000 - $14,000 per year depending on a student's academic performance, area of interest, and country of origin.
