As part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR), Vedanta Aluminium Ltd (VAL) launched a unique programme, PRAYAS, for imparting quality education and improving competency level of primary level students in peripheral villages here. The scheme will be implemented by NGO Pratham India in the six peripheral villages, wherein an integrated approach will be followed to bring the child into school and supplementary reading-writing materials will be provided to encourage self learning process and create interest for education among them. It also seeks to provide training to the existing teachers on the unique module and supplement with additional trained teaching staff as required. During the launch of the programme, among others, Jharsuguda Collector Dhananjay Das. VAL ED Pankaj Khanna, AVP Human Resource Lalitendu Samant, Head CSR Sanjeev Pattnaik and Odisha representative of Pratham Sraban Bag and many teachers and students from peripheral villages were present. Pankaj Khanna said, "VAL is committed to facilitate the growth of Human Development Index of Jharsuguda. In its endeavour to achieve the same the entire CSR is focused into health, education, livelihood, environment, sports and culture of the society. The programme will create an open and interesting atmosphere meeting their needs and help facilitate the child to cope with the new learning environment. VAL aims at implementing the project at its core peripheral villages initially and the success of this pilot project will further the implementation to a broader area" The programme would reduce the dropout rate and strengthen the students' urge for education, he added. The Collector appreciated the VAL initiative, saying,, "VAL is doing commendable work in its peripheral areas." Other speakers also lauded the noble initiative of VAL.
